Hello, y'all!  Has everyone had a fabulous May? Everything is almost in full bloom and we couldn't be happier! We are just on the cusp of weekend cottage trips, campfires, late-night backyard productions, and sunny morning coffee season. Oh, how we've missed it.

Now that we have been able to shake off those winter blues, we are getting into another type of blues. We are talkin' about the good kind of blues, the navy blues. Let us introduce you to Project Deerhorn; this main floor reno quickly trickled down into the basement and second floor, and is full of hits of blues, mustard, golds, and terracotta. We had the opportunity to do a full overhaul to this suburban home's main floor, knocking down a few walls, opening up the kitchen to the dining room and living room, and incorporating a custom navy blue kitchen with a hidden surprise! The powder room and laundry room got a little love too. Some of the other spaces we want to show you guys are the upper floor music room, principal bedroom and closet, home gym, and basement bathroom.

Project Deerhorn was such a special one for MBD, our client was an absolute dream and really allowed us to do our thing. We also got to incorporate the most beautifully curated art pieces, along with custom drapery to bring Project Deerhorn all the way to the finish line.

Here she is in all of her glory. Project Deerhorn.

Let's get started in the foyer. The tile inlay makes for the perfect spot to kick off those wet or snowy shoes. Splashes of mustard, navy, and terracotta in the custom-framed artwork set the stage for all of the goodness to come!
Pop on over to the dining room. One of our number one requests is to ditch the formal dining room and living room, and expand the kitchen into those spaces. That is exactly what we did here. However, we did keep space for a smaller round table for a more casual dining area that is much more likely to be used daily!
Take a look at that light fixture.
Our client loves plants and we wanted to create a little nook that was dedicated just to that. We decided on a curved arch wall detail and off-centered floating shelves to give a casual look. We really love to mix clean simple lines with curvy elements to add interest to any space.
Okay, this is probably our favorite part of the house. This kitchen is making all of our dreams come true! Slabbed backsplash and paneled appliances are just the start of this custom kitchen.
Oh, but what is this? A secret walk-in pantry camouflaged into the cabinetry. Yup, it sure is. Not every home layout lends itself to have this feature but this one sure did. We couldn't pass up the perfect opportunity for this feature.
Look at all of that storage. It is so important to think about functionality when it comes to designing kitchens. In this particular area, we wanted everything to be super accessible, especially because you can close the door behind you and all of a sudden you have a perfect-looking kitchen.
We couldn't let the pantry steal the show of course. This oak island with a vertical panelled detail is the perfect companion.
Take a look at the other side with the microwave drawer and integrated dishwasher, this creates a seamless look!
Turn around to the living room. Pops of colour and plush pillows have this room calling your name. This large-scale gallery wall is the focal point! We wanted to give each special piece of art room to breathe.
Curl up by the toasty fire. How cool is this tile? It embodies realistic textures and unique details. We were drawn to the beautiful cool blue, warm rust and neutral wood tones make it THE perfect supporting feature in this space!
A powder room that pops!! Powder rooms are ALWAYS a great spot to let your creative side shine. They tend to be tucked away and quite small, this is not always a bad thing. Use it as an opportunity to try something new, fun, different and bold. In this powder room, we've carried the blue vibes in with a graphic hatched wallpaper and hits of gold. What a fab combo.
We all have to do laundry at some point, it's inevitable. Let's make it a little bit better by having a pretty place to do it! This laundry room is a party of colour, tiles, textures, and finishes seen in the other parts of the house.
Let us take you upstairs to the music room. This room has so many special moments going on. Where do we start? The custom white piano? The gallery wall? Original art? Or maybe the skylight with the stunning center fixture? This room is the perfect spot for an afternoon catnap or an evening of listening to music and finding something new in each piece of art to fall even more in love with.
On our way to the principal bedroom, we are greeted by one of our favourite pieces in the house. She adds a feminine flair that we will see again in the principal bedroom. Look at that closet... we can only dream.
This principal bedroom gives us that feminine fierce vibe. We decided to carry the same pattern from the powder room wallpaper in a different colour to the bedroom drapery, as well as that rich rust colour from the fireplace tile so that all of the spaces tie in together. Remember, you don't have to perfectly match items or use the same ones in each room. Instead go for items with a commonality like a pattern, shade, shape, or texture, and work off of that. You will find your spaces will feel much more curated instead of matchy-matchy.
Okay, get those legs ready. We are going all the way down to the basement. Take a look at this home gym!! Ain't she pretty? I guess you could look at having a gym in your home as both a positive and negative. Hear me out. You are only a few steps to your sweat sesh, which is fabulous, but now you can't back out with an excuse like "oops, my alarm didn't go off" or "my car won't start" or the personal favorite "I have nothing to wear". We've all had to come up with some sort of creative story as to why we can no longer meet our pals at the gym after enthusiastically committing the evening before... possibly after a few...sodas. If you look off to the right, you will see the tiled risers on the stairs that bring a little bit of interest to this space.
This home gym is the perfect spot to unplug and get your sweat on. Our thighs are burning just looking at it!!!
Just past the stairs, we designed a special spot to freshen up after a killer workout. In this basement bathroom, we incorporated multiple patterns, textures, and colours that all work together to create a playful feel.
Sometimes a shower niche is not in the cards, but that's okay! We decided on a skinny ledge to place all of those lotions and potions on. This avoids the need for those funny little porcelain corner shelves that no matter how careful you are, your shampoo bottle always goes rocketing down to the floor. I swear they jump off of the shelf on their own. Absolutely no judgment if you are still rocking the corners shelves... but R.I.P to your toes. If you know, you know.
Finally, a vanity moment. Simple, functional, and timeless.
This wraps up Project Deerhorn. We are so thrilled with how everything turned out. We are always so excited to finish a project because that means we get to share it with you all!

Thank you for stopping by! We always love to see you.

Until next time,
