Hello friends!! How are we all doing this fine February? Things again are looking a little different than what they did a few weeks ago. Let's try to look at the positive side of things... I know, I know... It's not an easy thing right now but, these turns of events have taught the team at MBD how to be much more adaptive, responsive, proactive, and go with the flow. We hope you all have been able to find some positives in this not so super-duper fab time.

This month's letter is extra special. If you have been following along on MBD’s journey you will know how badly we needed a studio, with the team expanding and the scope of our projects quickly growing larger we needed a serious upgrade. We wanted our loyal followers to be the first to see our new digs.

MBD headquarters is a labor of love. When designing this space it was so important to think about how we operate daily, we needed desks, of course, a killer kitchen for us to enjoy our daily lunch breaks and whip up some beverages for our clients, a storage area because let's get real the Berwick garage wasn't quite cutting it anymore (Mr. Berwick was pretty pumped to get his space back after 7 years), a lounge area, a board room with an oh so custom table and samples library (this was a biggie for us).

We didn't want this space to be your average "stale" office environment. This studio was meant to feel feminine, fresh, and whimsical. We would love to extend a huge thank you to all of our amazing suppliers that had a hand in creating such a special place for not only the team at MBD but also our clients. Without them, this would not have come together the way it did!

Here she is in all of her glory, the first-ever MBD Studio!!

When you first walk in, you're greeted by our steel MBD logo sitting between two pill-shaped pendants on this blush fluted accent wall. Like how good is that? A special shout out to one of our clients who made this sign for us. A very special touch indeed for so many reasons.

We have a spot for all of our coats and shoes... Because let's be honest 80% of the time we are wearing our comfy warm slippers in the office... This goes along with the whole "we didn't want a stale office environment"
Now just off to your left, we have our lush lounge, a spot to have our Monday meetings to get the week started on the right foot, have our clients, suppliers, and other industry creatives for a chat or casual visit. Our personal favorite is working from a phone or a laptop nestled in the sun between the plush pillows from Tonic Living.

Let us take you into the most cheery washroom there ever was. This peachy pink wallpaper was MEANT for this space. A custom laminate vanity by Hartley Built is the best mix of durability and pretty we needed in this space. A floating ring light illuminates the washroom perfectly and also makes you look pretty darn good while you're washing your hands with our insanely cool faucet. Matte white WITH gold accents... Yes, 2 finishes... oh it's a thing.

This faucet is a thing of beauty. We bring all of our plumbing needs over to Vatero. They have amazing customer service and a huge selection. We are ALWAYS sourcing from one of our favorite suppliers they carry Rubinet. They have so many stock finish options, you can even choose 2 finishes as we've done in our office. Their quality is unparalleled.
Come on over to our desk area where the creativity is flowing, spreadsheets are calculated, dreams are brought to reality, and laughs are had. These amazing custom desks are simple, sturdy, and just what we needed, our friends over at Rustic House interiors handcrafted these beautiful desks for our office space.

Alright... Maybe the best part of the office? But why do we have to choose just one? Let's start with the legendary pill-shaped island that sits in the foreground. Hartley Built's team absolutely crushed this fluted pink island.

Now, there was no question we had to use one of the many specially curated designs from our luxury quartz countertop supplier Cambria. This subtle statement countertop is called Salt Lake, we chose to do something a little different by doing a matte finish for a soft and modern feel. They have really outdone themselves. The install was flawless thanks to elegant solutions. It was like watching a ballet considering the not so typical pill shape. We are beyond thrilled with our supplier, rep, and the results.
Check out the most badass coffee maker there is out there. It can do everything, you name it it does it. I think the only thing it can't do is fold your laundry! Our rep at Caplan's Appliances always make sure our team and clients have the best of the best, both in service and in product.
Check out those details!
Let's bring it over to our shelves. This feature is actually very functional for us! All of these accessories can be styled on our shelves to make our office look super pretty, but, it also acts as stock for when we need to do some final stylings. Our gal Maria from studio Mustique is a whiz when it comes to supplying us with the most fantastic and unique accessories, she even produces original artwork that we love to use while putting the final touches on a project.
The next stop on our tour is our stairs, yes they are steep but don’t worry, we have our custom handrail made by the boys over at RPM to hang on to. This geometric design was not easy to pull off but, with their expertise, it was a breeze.

This is where all of our client presentations take place. This handcrafted table we designed was brought to life by the amazing Rustic House interiors, notice how the finish matches our desks downstairs? In person, presentations are something we miss the most in this lockdown, but we are so excited and more than ready to get them rolling in our brand new space when we are allowed to do so. Until then we will keep up with our  Zoom dates.

These walls were looking a little lonely, but we knew just how to fix that. Of course, a triptych set of Lee Lesseem prints HAD to go on the wall. They are sitting pretty with custom framing done by one of our industry favorites Tara from On The Wall framing. Could this be any more perfect? Whenever I am feeling blue I just call Tara and we rif over art ideas and she says things like "I cant!... This is insane... this is going to be insane...you will fall over when you see this....you will not be able to stand"....and frankly she's right. My wish for everyone is to feel as passionate about something as Tara is about art.
Let's Shimmy shake over to our sample library. This was so exciting for the team to have a spot for ALL of our samples. We have a place for everything, and everything is in its place... for now. Cam and his team at Cambro nailed our matte black slatted cabinetry, it’s sleek, modern, and eye-catching.

Of course, we had to top it off with another one of the legendary designs of countertops from Cambria. This Rosebay quartz countertop was also chosen in a matte finish to keep that modern look going. Everything about this space gives us ALL the vibes.
We have come to an end on the tour of our new HQ. We are so excited about how our office turned out, we can't wait to have our clients in to enjoy our new space with us. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to making this dream of Michelle Berwick Design a reality, this is such a special spot for us, we are so excited to create even more special spaces for all of you.

Until next time
